Parts of Plants and Functions.

Updated: Jun 12, 2023

Plants are living organisms that play an important part in our lives. Just like human body has different parts, plants also have different parts that have different functions. The most important parts of plants are:

  1. Leaves

  2. Flowers

  3. Stem

  4. Roots

Functions of different parts of plants:

* Roots: The roots absorb water and mineral salts, from deep down the soil. Root hairs (tiny substances on the roots) provide a larger surface area, that helps the roots to absorb a large amount of water and mineral salts. Also the roots make sure that plants are firmly held in the soil.

* Stem: This part of the plant acts like a pillar for the plant. It holds the plant upright and carries the water and mineral salts to the leaves and to the other parts of the plant. The absorbed material by the roots are transported to the stem so that the material could reach the leaves.

* Leaves: This part of plant produce food through the process of photosynthesis that the plants need to work out it's daily activities. The material in the stem enters the leaves and the process of photosynthesis takes place.

* Flower: This is the most attractive part of the plant. It helps plants to reproduce through the process of fertilization.
