Circulatory System

Updated: Jan 15, 2023

Heart is an important organ in our body. It is located on the middle left-side of the chest. Well heart's important job is to pump blood through the circulatory system, thus providing oxygen rich blood which is required for staying alive. So, how does your heart works?

Through the circulatory system, which is made up of blood vessels that carry blood away from and towards the heart. Arteries carry blood away from the heart and veins carry blood back to the heart.

The circulatory system consists of four major components:

  1. Heart: pumps blood through out the body.

  2. Arteries: Carry blood away from heart.

  3. Veins: Carry blood back to the heart.

  4. Blood: Made of plasma, white blood cells and red blood cells.

  5. Lungs: Used to change the deoxygenated blood to oxygenated blood.

First, what is your heart made of? It is made of 4 different chambers. The upper chambers are known as right and left atrium and the bottom chambers are known as left and right ventricle.

Procedure:

It starts in the upper right atrium where the deoxygenated blood enters the heart. From there the blood goes through the tricuspid valve to the second chamber called the right ventricle, which plumps the blood to the left direction through the pulmonary valve and then through the pulmonary artery directly into the lungs. That's where the blood mixes with the oxygen.

Then the oxygenated blood travels back to the heart through the pulmonary vein into the left atrium and finally through the mitral valve into the chamber called the left-ventricle. And then this oxygenated blood is pumped out through out the body. Hence, circulatory system in our body is very important for survival.
